When It Rains, It Pours

It's been a helluva week. Here's the latest:

Poor little guy. Three stitches. We got to the hospital shortly before 6pm, we got home shortly after 9pm (or was it shortly before? I can't remember now). Anyway, by the time I got him fed and settled down (he had a hard time getting to sleep) it was 10:30. It's now 9 am and he's still asleep, which is just as well. I'm sure he needs it.

I don't want to blog all the details cuz my heart just isn't in the blogging these days, but I do want to record this: Chris was so brave. Before they put the stitches in, the RN came in with a loooooong white blanket and said, "We're going to make you a burrito." So he stood Chris on the bed and turned him around and around in this blanket, which Chris thought was funny. Of course, the reason they do this is to immobilize their arms.

Then they laid him on the bed. I was on one side, the doctor was on the other, and the RN was up at the top of the bed, with one hand on either side of Chris' head. Basically, we were all in position to keep Chris still so the doctor could stitch him up without him knocking her hands all around.

But we didn't need to worry. He didn't fuss or squirm or anything. He didn't whine or cry. He was amazingly cooperative. The RN said normally he'd be holding the head still and the mom would be practically laying on her child's body to keep his hips still. We were all very impressed.

That's something Chris feels proud about, the rest of us too, so I had to record it. I'm thankful to my mom for rushing over here and taking care of the rest of my children for me. I'm thankful that Chris slept through most of our time in the waiting room and then received excellent care from caring professionals. For a trip to the ER, it wasn't nearly as bad as it could've been.

What a trooper! He needs to teach my kids a few things about not freaking out.

I hope your week gets less hellish and you are able to find a moment of peace.

I've missed you. . . but I can understand not being up for blogging. I've felt that way at times. Take the break you need.

Chris, what a tough kid! What brought this fun trip on??? Please don't tell me it had anything to do with older brothers. You are so brave and you still look very cute.

Fortunately, it did not have anything to do with his brothers. He must have been running at full speed and basically tripped over his own two feet. Our driveway is rough asphalt with bits of loose gravel here and there, and he must have landed on one of those. The hole in his forehead was small but deep, so it must have been that. His brothers saw it happen and came running to me with panic in their voices. They were very concerned about him all night long. When I came home John was in bed but still awake and I spent probably 30 minutes easing his concerns for his brother, explaining what stitches are, answering all his questions, etc. I had felt bad to know they had been so worried, but it was sweet to know how much they love little brother.

I am sorry! What a big boy to sit so still. That is a hard thing to do. That is sweet his brothers were so concerned.

Oh man. I am so sorry. Poor Chris. But seriously what a trooper! He's much tougher than me.

Ouch! He's one cool kid. Tell him his stitches make him look tough.

We missed you last night, but I guess you had other priorities, right? Ha ha.

Hopefully next week is better for you.

Chris, you are the best! Way to be strong. You will have fun making up the many stories to go along with your scar as you grow up!!! Then, it will fade away to almost nothing, and no more story time. :(

That looks like a pretty rough tumble! I'm glad you were only there 3 hours. Believe me, that's a record. I hope he heals up fast :D

Hey Cuz!
Awwwwww, Im so sorry to hear Chris fell! How dare the ground scratch up that adorable little face! When I read the 'burrito' technique I thought, "thats what they should have done with Kumani when he fell out of his high chair and split his forehead open between his eyes!" Oh the horror..you sound like you did much better in the ER than me too! I'll share that story next time I see you! kisses!
